Beware of “Storm Chaser” Fraud

Protect yourself from unreliable and fraudulent service companies. Storm-Chaser Scam Artists only mean harm. Here are the top three tips to help you avoid their trap.

  1. Don't commit to the first bid. Talk with a few contractors before you decide which is best.
  2. Pay in installments. If the contractor requires full payment before they begin work, it is probably a scam. Wait until your satisfied with the finished job before you pay the total balance.
  3. Ask family and friends for trusted contractors. Check references and the Better Business Bureau for licensed contractors.
